Overall Impressions of the Yoga Direct 1/4 Inch Mat

Yoga Direct 1/4 Inch Mat Yoga Direct’s Deluxe 1/4-Inch Mat is one of the better options for a cheap yoga mat that still provides decent comfort and durability.

You can tell this is a no-frills mat based on its name alone. It’s just the “1/4 Inch Mat.” No fancy, exotic nickname like the Synergy or the Harmony.

So if you’re a beginner looking to get started, or if you’re a yoga enthusiast who would prefer to purchase a no-frills mat rather than shelling out big bucks for something more popular, this Yoga Direct model might work for you.

Yoga Direct clearly didn’t spend a lot of time coming up with fancy names for its products, but they did put a lot of effort into creating all sorts of fancy colors. This mat comes in various shades of blue, green, purple, red, yellow and black.

The 1/4 Inch gets its name from the fact that it’s a quarter-inch thick, which is twice as thick as many of the more popular 1/8 inch mats. That provides extra cushion and comfort, though it does increase the weight of the item.

For those who don’t want the extra padding or want a lighter model, Yoga Direct also produces a 1/8 inch model.

How’s the grip?

Yoga Direct pink That’s a tough one. Any yogi needs a mat with decent traction so their hands and feet won’t slide around during practice. While some folks believe the traction on this mat is just fine, others say it’s not good at all.

Obviously, the more you sweat, the more likely you are to slip on the mat. For that reason, we would not recommend the Yoga Direct 1/4 Inch for those who practice hot yoga (instead, try the Aurorae Synergy.)

For those who participate in a form of yoga that doesn’t result in as much sweating, this mat could be acceptable in terms of grip.

Affordability vs durability

As noted above in the Pros and Cons section, the Yoga Direct 1/4 Inch mat is reasonably durable. Some users report their mats have lasted a couple years. But in general, this mat will not last as long as the more pricey models that are designed with durability in mind.

With an affordable price, the YogaDirect Deluxe 1/4-Inch is good starter mat for people just getting into yoga. You can always upgrade to a higher-quality mat later on, once you decide if practicing yoga on a regular basis is something you really want to do.

Pros: One of the better options in the budget price range. Decent comfort level and durability, but it won’t last for years like some of the more expensive mats.
Cons: Grip and traction are questionable, especially for those who sweat a lot.
