Overall Impressions of the TriggerPoint GRID Foam Roller
If you’re searching for a high-quality foam roller, the TriggerPoint GRID might be your best bet. While some foam rollers start to fall apart and lose their sturdiness and shape over time, this one holds up great.
I’ve had mine for more than two years and it still looks and feels new. It has maintained its shape and proven to be one of the most durable rollers out there. The TriggerPoint GRID features a unique design that makes it more effective than its competitors. Its price is a bit more than some of the cheaper foam roller brands out there, but as is usually the case, you get what you pay for. This one is worth the investment because it will last.
Unique Design of the TriggerPoint Roller
Most foam rollers have a simple straight and solid design. The TriggerPoint GRID’s design is described as a “multi-density exterior with a hollow core and proprietary Distrodensity zones.”
What all that essentially means is that the roller is firmer while incorporating three-dimensional spaces that provide room for your muscles to aerate during use. The basic roller measures 5.5 inches in diameter and 13 inches long, though the company also make an extra-long 26-inch model.
I love the GRID shape compared to just the standard straight design. Rolling out your muscles on the grid design feels much better and it truly feels more like a massage. This is perfect for places that are extremely tight or sore.
Some sections on the roller are flat as well, and sometimes I prefer that for stretching out. You really get the best of both worlds with the TriggerPoint GRID. The hollow design is also different. The materials used are strong enough that the roller doesn’t need to be solid. That makes it lightweight and easy to transport.
Durability and Construction
Other foam rollers I have used have been a little too soft. They don’t allow me to roll out my back and shoulders as much as I’d like to when they are extra tight. Thankfully, the GRID foam roller feels a little more solid and stiff due to its EVA foam construction. It doesn’t get deformed easily, and as a result feels comparable to getting a deep tissue massage.
For all of these reasons, many athletic trainers, athletes, and massage therapists use and recommend the TriggerPoint GRID for stretching, injury rehabilitation, and muscle recovery. I would strongly recommend it for anyone looking for a good foam roller.
