Overall Impressions of the Aurorae Synergy Yoga Mat

Aurorae Synergy mat I’ve been using an Aurorae Synergy towel-mat combo for the past two years, and it’s one of my very favorite mats, especially for hot yoga. The key feature is the built-in microfiber towel, which provides grip and keeps you from having to use a separate towel. My hands rarely slip while using this mat.

At less than 4 pounds, the Synergy is durable, lightweight and travels easily. I often bike to yoga, and it’s very easy to strap this to my backpack and carry on my back while I travel to the studio. Often I even forget it’s there! It’s not the thickest mat you will ever use, but the 5 mm cushion is enough to provide a decent level of comfort.

Moisture absorption and cleaning

The built-in towel sops up all my sweat, which means that after a few uses, it can start to smell. I use the mat six times a week, and I’ve found that I need to wash the mat at least once a week to keep the odor in check. Aurorae suggests taking great care when machine-washing the Synergy, by using a gentle cycle with warm water. I wash it in a machine and let it air dry, and I’ve had no problems. The drying process takes several hours, so I usually let it dry overnight.

Synergy mat I use the mat for bikram yoga, which means I sweat a ton, and that’s why the mat needs such frequent cleanings. The costs of washing and sanitizing the mat can add up, but that’s a small price to pay for such a quality mat. If you’re practicing a style of yoga that doesn’t result in as much exertion and sweat, obviously you won’t have to wash it as often.

The mat is designed for heavy perspiration, so either way it’s going to help prevent your hands and feet from slipping. Hot yoga practitioners rave about this mat, so if that’s your preferred style of yoga, you really can’t go wrong with this one. I can personally give it my highest recommendation.

Quality versus price

The Synergy is a medium-priced yoga mat, so you’ll have to be willing to make a decent-sized monetary investment. I bought mine last year, and I could not be happier with the investment. It’s very durable and isn’t showing any wear after more than a couple hundred uses. It looks like it will last quite awhile.

Also, when it comes to analyzing costs, remember that you won’t need to buy a separate towel with this one, since it’s built in. That will save you a bit of money right there. The mat is available in five colors, all of which are shades of blue, purple and black.
